Social Media Course Aims and Objectives

A           
To develop a good understanding of online safety; to know about a range of dangers and threats and how to protect oneself as fully as possible.
To increase awareness of a range of social issues linking social media with physical and mental health, legal issues and social integration.
To extend knowledge of the specific language and terms being developed by users of social media.
 B           
To become familiar with the fundamentals of at least 4 popular social media platforms, with reference to different devices.
To be able to create a personal profile on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & Snapchat, and Blogger which one can feel comfortable with and that will have longevity.
To start following other users, whether out of personal or professional interest. To be aware of the opportunities available to benefit from research, journalism and news feeds.
To have the confidence to be able to continue developing these platforms as appropriate in the future.
              
C           
To develop skills in complementary media, particularly in photography and video.
To gain experience uploading and embedding these items, thereby increasing the quality of communication and content.
To learn about YouTube alongside creating personal profiles so that links can be generated as required.
 D
To investigate the application and potential of social media for such purposes as networking, start-ups, business development, job hunting and participating in the gig-economy.
To increase awareness of monetising opportunities offered by social platforms through advertising, crowd-funding and charity fund-raising.

    I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your unwavering patience as a Tutor. Its so encouraging to those of us returning to their studies, that you have the utmost faith in and unwavering optimism in your mature students. I'm quite sure that under your expert guidance everyone will master their fears and become savvy with social media. you're a true professional!

Dear Students and Jackie, I hope that you are enjoying the course! I have found you all to be a lot of fun to work with and it's been great to see so many of you make real progress on the course. Remember to keep going over the skills taught until they become second nature. I hope that you have some joy with Instagram today and that you are able to play around with the photographs taken yesterday. I should be there from lunchtime onwards today when our aim will be to tidy up our work ready for printing. If time, we could look at some basic photography editing skills. If time we will begin with the basics of YouTube. What a superb site YouTube is and now your Google account will allow you to configure and play with your own YouTube profile. You can make playlists, arrange videos in folders to watch later or watch again.
